AMD is a short form of an American multinational semiconductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, USA. Its full form is Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD is famous for developing computer processors and related technologies for IT industry.
The main products of AMD are microprocessors, motherboard chipsets, embedded processors and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers, and embedded systems applications. It also designs and develops CPUs, APUs, desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices.
AMD Inc. was founded by Jerry Sanders and his seven friends in 1969. AMD is the biggest competitor of Intel in the manufacturing of processors and personal computer's parts. Actually, it is the second largest supplier after Intel in the market of x86-based microprocessors.
It has been listed in the largest stock exchanges of U.S. namely NYSE and NASDAQ.
