BAMS is an acronym stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. It is a graduate degree awarded in the field of medicine to those who have completed the study of five and half year medicine course including one year internship
The BAMS course curriculum includes studying and teaching of modern anatomy, physiology, pathology & diagnostic procedures, principles of medicine, preventive and social medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic medicine, ENT, gynecology & obstetrics, Ophthalmology, principles of surgery, etc. along with ayurvedic topics.
The BAMS course has a unique combination of ancient Ayurved and Modern Medicine. This facilitates the BAMS graduate to use the modern medicines as well as the ayurvedic medicines in practice.
The minimum criteria to take admission in this course is to complete 12th class education with science from any recognized board.
After the successful completion of the course, the BAMS graduate can work in following areas:
After completing the BAMS degree, the student is designated as Ayurvedacharya. He can use the courtesy title "Doctor" upon registration as a medical practitioner.
